They called him Uncle Walt for a reason
Long Overdue and Just In Time!
Excellent book for those wanting to know Walt Disney betterI appreciated the fact that the comments were a mixture of positive and negative reflections on Walt Disney. I finished the book with the feeling that I knew the man a little better, and have a deeper respect for his work and his vision.
There are plenty of photographs scattered throughout the book of Walt, his family and associates. I felt the photos added a lot to the impressions conveyed by the book. My only complaint is that I would have liked captions for the photos placed with the photos, detailing the time of the photo and who the people in the photo were. Also, I would have liked to see the photos coordinated with the stories. Having both young Walt and mature Walt on the same page seemed a little confusing at times. However, I did not think this detracted at all from my enjoyment of the book . . . I'm just someone that likes to know the details.
Overall, I highly recommend this books to anyone that wants to know Walt Disney, the man, the employer, the business associate and the family man a little better.

Hers and hers alone!
SHE DID IT AGAIN!!
She Brought Him To His Knees!

For the skeptics
This is the VERY BEST book I have ever read, period!
Free At Last, Free At Last!

An extremely in-depth synopsis. Well researched.
A Great Guitar Player with an Interesting Life StoryThe only drawback to the book was that sometimes the authors get side tracked into too much detail (history of Dallas, Austin, his Mother and Father...), and the language is pretty rough throughout the book. The story of Stevie Ray's life is written well enough that I read the book a second time as soon as I finished. Stevie Ray Vaughn had a unique life.
Awesome Book!

Not Just Animals Suffer
Sacred Cows and Golden Geese
why is so little careful criticism of this book to be found?Unfortunately, there is little criticism of this book in the literature: carefully read the book and then search for rebuttals. You won't find much. This is not surprising since Dr. Greek often attempts to debate those who make their living on animal experimentation, but more often than not, they won't show up for the debate. Some scientists whine and get emotional about Greek's book, but nobody seriously responds to the Greek's arguments. Nobody provides a scientific case in defense of animal research that is comparable in quality or sophistication to the case against. Animal researchers have, so far, utterly failed at defending what they do from a scientific perspective. Their attempts at doing moral philosophy are even worse. This is unfortunate and one wishes that they would do a better job.

Inspirational!!
The HOLY BOOK on fitness!
Have your sweats ready to go!The first time I read this book was at night, and I got so pumped up I wanted to go go go right then and there. The next day was so busy I couldn't do anything and so on the excuses began.
You can't get "the faith" unless you actually begin, so start right away. This book will give you a great outlook and push in the right direction. It is beautiful, and actually gives me an adrenaline rush to read it, Ray is so excited about everything, it's infectious.
There are also some training programs to start you out, and you learn great techniques for interval training etc. and some advanced techniques for things as well. This book can keep you going for awhile.
As, a vegetarian, I don't really like the nutrition section... he goes for a "caveman" diet like "the zone." I do appreciate his points that carbs *are* overeaten, especially processed ones. I'm just not sure eating lots and lots of meat is the solution.
But I digress. If you want to make fitness a big part of your life and are tired of fitness books by phony people who have never struggled with their weight or self-esteem, this book is for you.
Ray is as down to earth and warm as a Hollywood trainer can be!

Good book but I am still looking for moreI did like the sample projects at the end of each chapter. The projects were simple, applicable and illustrated some good points. I did learn many things from this book, but in developing some fairly sophistocated templates I found a lot of deficiencies or omissions with the book (eg: I thought more could be said about templates).
I think this book is great for a general Word user but a Word developer needs more.
Excellent as a reference or in-depth tour of WordI choose to use this book as a reference. It is well organized, clearly indexed, and includes helpful cross-references throughout the text. There are also hundreds of tips, notes and cautions, though visually these are so numerous they are distracting.
I think a person could also read this book cover to cover as an excellent in-depth tour of Word. I haven't explored the CD yet, but I am enjoying the book so much that I am willing to risk a muscle strain to lug it back and forth between home and office.
Ships With The Kitchen Sink IncludedAll seriousness aside, this is perhaps the best book ever written on Word2000. Camarda really did his homework and it shows. It is gratifying to actually buy something these days and acquire some value along the way for your hard earned bucks. Everything you can possibly think of to do with Word is included and thoroughly explained; the Net, templates, intelligence, etc... You won't get through this book eating a Cheeseburger on a boring Saturday night, believe me. Prepare to do some serious study and look forward to several weeks of focused study. Nicely laid out, good color contrast to prevent eye-strain...in depth explanation...you won't be sorry you bought this book.

In a word -- yum!The book's opening is a winner. Ruth, attending a stress clinic, encounters the common exercise to take yourself to a safe place. She has trouble at first but soon realizes her safe space is right inside a warm Bundt cake. Makes me hungry just thinking about it!
Ruth's life is about baking cakes -- from scratch. She bakes to relax. She bakes to win friends. She bakes -- well, to bake! And ultimately baking is what saves her and her family batches of trouble. Her husband's job disappears in a merger. Her father, wrists broken, comes to stay awhile. Her daughter is being a typical teenager. And under the same roof is her mother who hisses and spits like a cat at the sight of her ex-husband, Ruth's father.
Now, Ruth realizes, she really needs those stress classes. Instead, she finds inspiration from her father's physical therapist, a character the dust jacket compares to Cheryl Richardson, and her father himself.
Ruth begins a new venture and that's where the book gets a little heavy on the icing. Ruth is immensely gifted, but talent is not enough, whether you're a baker or a writer. Miraculously, everyone in Ruth's family -- as well as the helpful physical therapist -- contributes a skill or connection to the enterprise.
Plausible? Yes. The author of Girls with the Grandmother Faces published her first book with the help of her family, around her own kitchen table. Lucky? Also yes. In some families the parents would be whiny wet blankets, the daughter a teen pregnancy waiting to happen and the college-age son a delinquent.
I must admit I'm a little biased against books that present starting a business as nearly effortless. However, sometimes you want to enjoy a cake and forget the calories. And sometimes you want to enjoy a well-written feel-good story where the fairy godmother is a composite of most of the folks in the heroine's life and it takes six months, not a wave of the wand, to move the reader to a happy ending.
Sweet book is a delicious break from lifeJeanne Ray is one of my favorite authors, her books just touch the heart without being cloy or cutesy. Her characters are genuine and people you can care about, her stories are simple yet hit home. She still hasn't topped her first book, Julie and Romeo, which is on my top ten list of favorite books of all time, but this is a very enjoyable read. Her daughter is pretty talented, too - she's Ann Patchett of Bel Canto fame.
A Great ReadAnyway, read this book when you need a warm, lovely diversion from your life. The main character sees herself in cakes to relieve stress, I used this author's book as my therapy. Thank you Ms. Ray.

Another fine guidebook from Lonely Planet
The Best All-Purpose Guide to Britain!
A Great Asset to any trip to Great Britain
I feel like I know Walt a lot better after having this book. From the early days of animation to the creation of Disneyland and Walt Disney World... friends, co-workers, and family members describe this complicated man from every possible perspective.
Walt was not a saint or an angel. Nor was he the devil that some recent biographers have tried to make him out to be. He was a human being... a complicated human being. He was a visionary, at least 50 years ahead of his time. Mostly, he was a miraculous, paternal figure in the lives of everyone close to him and a magical, whimsical personality to almost everyone else in the world. They called him Uncle Walt for a reason.
This incredible collection of photos and stories will be treasured by those who love Walt and should be enjoyed even by those with an occasional curiosity in the man who created an empire based on a mouse.
